Hitchcock Design Group is leading a multi-disciplinary project team to design improvements for Park 564 - Big Marsh Eco-recreation Park in the Chicago Southeast side neighborhood of South Deering. The site was recently acquired by the Chicago Park District and is a critical open space component of the Millennium Reserve. Numerous eco-recreation opportunities are being planned for the site with a focus on mountain biking. Additional bicycling activities being proposed for the site include: single track bike trails, cycle-cross course, slope-style course, pump track, dirt jump trail, dual slalom course, short track course, gravity flow trail and bicycle skill training area. Green infrastructure improvements such as bio-infiltration areas, dark sky compliant lighting, native landscaping and habitat restoration are planned for the site as well as additional items required in the City of Chicago’s “Calumet Design Guidelines.”
