The scope of work involved the creation of a sustainable landscape plan as part of the renovation of this 1960s-era campus building. This project has the first native landscape, bioswale and rain garden on campus, establishing the precedent for sustainable landscapes on this extremely urbanized Chicago campus.

Hitchcock Design Group was responsible for the development of grading and soil profiles for the bioswales and rain garden. Beyond the limited turf areas, the landscape plan is comprised only of native plants; once established, these will not require irrigation. The renovation project was certified as LEED Gold, and the landscape plan is responsible for 5 LEED points: SS 5.1,6.1,6.2 and WE 1.1,1.2.
