Once home to parking lots and a municipal storage yard, downtown Naperville has become the centerpiece of a transformation into one of the Nation’s best places to live. The first phase of the Riverwalk was funded by citizens’ donations and discounted services and materials from local consultants and contractors. Incremental portions of the four-mile, 75-acre linear park have been constructed each year since 1981. For over 30 years, Hitchcock Design Group has been involved in this now well-recognized landmark and the project has encouraged other communities to reinvest in their own downtown riverfronts. As Naperville has grown, its ability to attract quality developments has also increased and has allowed it to create a downtown with a vibrant live-work-shop-play atmosphere.
