The Rush University Medical Center Transformation project involved the restoration and expansion of the existing Rush University Medical Campus, which is part of the larger Illinois Medical District. The project consisted of separate but congruent phases to be constructed over the course of the next eight years: the Atrium Expansion, Midwest Orthopedics at Rush, Parking Garage, and Public Park.
As a member of the project team, Hitchcock Design Group was responsible for the design, documentation and construction administration of the overall streetscape design and aesthetic, foundation plantings, roof gardens and public park. Each phase is pursuing LEED certification. Sustainable design elements include stormwater infiltration planters, drought tolerant plant material, recycled materials, green roof technologies, the use of A/C condensate for irrigation, and the conversion of a surface parking lot to a park which doubles as a green roof for the underground service access.
