Let's cheers to three years to HDG Associate Caitlin Osburn!

Caitlin chose landscape architecture for its unique blend of art, science, and ecology, as well as for the opportunity to restore and protect natural resources. Growing up in a rural setting gave her a deep connection to the outdoors and an early appreciation for the ways landscapes evolve over time. Today, she brings that perspective into her work with Hitchcock Design Group, where she is known as a reliable and thoughtful designer who lays a strong foundation on every project.

With a clear understanding of design standards, planting, and cost estimating, Caitlin continues to expand her expertise through construction administration and ongoing environmental education. Her knowledge of native Midwest plants and passion for ecologically focused design guide her efforts to create landscapes that enhance biodiversity, foster resilience, and provide playful, engaging experiences for people of all ages.

A graduate of Ball State University with a degree in Landscape Architecture and a minor in Biology, Caitlin is an active member of the Biodiversity and Climate Action Committee in the Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. She is often recognized for her calm, collaborative nature and proactive approach, asking informed questions and contributing ideas that are both creative and strategic.

Congratulations and thank you, Caitlin! 🎉

Happy Kendraversary!

Since joining Hitchcock Design Group, Kendra Teune has grown into a trusted and versatile landscape designer known for her initiative, creative problem-solving, and ability to support multiple project teams with clarity and consistency.

After a year in the Naperville office, she spent two years in HDG’s South Florida office, where she contributed to a wide range of projects and played a key role in developing studio workflows, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary consultants on complex efforts like the Dolphin Convention Center.

Kendra’s drive for continuous learning is reflected in her self-led development of technical skills, including Revit, and her growing expertise in 3D graphics, InDesign, Photoshop, and Land F/X. She recently passed all three sections of the LARE and is on track for licensure.

A Purdue University graduate and Chicago suburban native, Kendra brings valuable regional knowledge along with diverse project experience from her work in Florida. Returning to the Naperville office, she’s eager to apply her skills creating outdoor spaces like those that first inspired her to pursue landscape architecture.

Cheers to three years! Congrats and thank you, Kendra. 🎉

Bringing the spirit of the Lost Pines to the playground...

We’re excited to be exploring concepts for a small, nature-inspired playscape at Bastrop State Park outside of Austin. Our goal: create spaces where kids can connect with the unique landscapes of the Lost Pines Savanna, Houston Toad Hollow, and nearby sandstone features, all in a playful, adventurous setting.

This is still early-stage work, but we love imagining the ways visitors might engage with the natural and cultural character of the park.

In modern healthcare environments, every square foot matters, including the ones outside.

We believe healing begins the moment someone arrives on a hospital campus. That’s why we work closely with the full design team to shape circulation systems that are simple, logical, and welcoming. Along the way, we intentionally introduce positive distractions, moments of beauty, comfort, and calm that help reduce stress and support emotional well-being.

Central to this approach is the power of nature. Decades of research affirm what we intuitively know: human beings are hardwired to respond to natural environments. This connection can lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety, and improve mood. Whether it's a view to a garden, the sound of water, or the feel of sunlight on skin, these natural moments make a measurable difference in the healing journey, and on the facility's bottom line.

In urban hospitals, the challenge is to create these restorative experiences within tight constraints. That’s why respite spaces, whether for patients, staff, families, or clinicians, must be thoughtfully integrated into the fabric of the campus. They are not luxuries; they are essential. Rooftop gardens, small courtyards, green edges along pathways, each offers a chance to connect with nature, rest, and restore.

With a holistic approach to design, we align disciplines, programs, and user needs to create outdoor environments that are not only functional and sustainable, but truly supportive of healing. These are places where people can find clarity, comfort, and most importantly, hope.

Cheers to three years! 🍾

HDG Associate II, Joemy Buschur is a multidisciplinary designer focused on the integration of ecological systems into the urban fabric. Her work is deeply invested in crafting meaningful outdoor spaces, creating communities that enhance local ecology.

With a background in interior architecture and textiles, Joemy now focuses on Landscape Architecture because of the profession's role as a connector across a wide range of scales. From drawing people into nature by providing beautiful amenity spaces, to designing native plant communities in urban infill spaces, to connecting neighborhoods with multi-modal transportation options, Joemy's practice bridges in the gap between the built environment and the multi-layered ecological world that surrounds us.

A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and Savannah College of Art & Design, she brings a holistic and creative approach to problem solving and project management, with an eye for practicality that adds measurable value. Joemy is an avid traveler in the United States and abroad, with a special interest in hospitality design. She draws inspiration from a wide range of personal experiences to craft each project’s unique sense of place.

We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated professional on our team. Thank you, Joemy and congratulations!
