Apollo Park 

Playground Renovation | Alsip, Illinois

The Alsip Park District engaged Hitchcock Design Group in the planning and renovation of the playground at the Apollo Recreation Center. In addition to general use, the playground is heavily used by the Alsip Park District’s Summer Camp and Pre-school Programs. The Southwest Special Recreation Association is based at the Apollo Recreation Center and uses the playground for their special needs programs. One of the past designs of the playground included a rocket ship, which generated many fond memories of being the “Rocket Park” by park district staff and park users. The Alsip Park District decided to bring back the rocket ship space theme and reviewed several designs prior to deciding on this scheme. The safety surfacing graphics refined the space theme.
