Healing Garden Design | Naperville, Illinois

The Edward Hospital Wings of Hope Angel Garden was envisioned to be a place for healing and remembrance for patients who have lost their newborns through miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal loss. Modeled after a quiet English manor garden, the design features a fountain and pool with custom designed architectural precast concrete features. Two cedar pergolas on brick columns frame the entries and bracket a wall that separates the garden from the busy hospital street beyond. Clay brick and natural-range bluestone pavers highlight key areas of the garden. A grass lawn serves as the centerpiece for the design in a way that invites strolling or private introspection. Seating is provided by teak benches and rocking chairs. Large planters, a glass commemorative panel, and an angel sculpture complete the design. Accent lighting extends the use of the garden into the evening. Hitchcock Design Group was responsible for the schematic design, contract documentation, and construction phase services.
