Miller Point

Hitchcock Design Group worked with the City of McHenry and Riverwalk Foundation on the Miller Point project from Schematic Design through completion of construction. The site is located along the ever-expanding Riverwalk at the confluence of the Fox River and Boone Creek and is a prime destination for community gatherings and events. One of the main focus areas of this project is the McHenry Riverwalk Shoppes. This space was a community initiative that involved local high school students who worked with Wold Architects on the design, drafting, and prefabrication of the building structures and there was a large volunteer effort to construct the buildings. The Shoppes act as small business incubators and host vendors for the season. HDG had the opportunity to contribute to the design of the space including the organization/layout of the buildings, paving design, gateway element, and connection to the rest of the Miller Point development. The inaugural season has seen a big draw to the Shoppes and Miller Point. Other improvements include a restroom building, site circulation, a kayak rental plaza, a performance pavilion, and accommodations for future ice skating.
