Southeast Metro Park
close Southeast Metro ParkAll-Abilities Playground | Austin, Texas
How can a dinosaur help to encourage inclusive play?
Southeast Metro Park is an inclusive all-abilities playground built with universal components to create an area of play that supports the cognitive, physical, sensory, visual, and auditory needs of all children.
The main play feature for the park is a 30-foot-long creature called a Mosasaur. Why?
Mosasaurs lived near the end of the Cretaceous Period about 66-90 million years ago and in the 1950s, the fossilized remains of a Mosasaur were found in Onion Creek, which borders the park. While the playground is designed specifically to be accessible to children with specialized needs, it is available for use by Travis County children of all ages.
